During the Edo period, the Tokugawa family gathered capable craftsmen from all over the country to Sunpu to build structures such as the Shizuoka Sengen Shrine and Kunozan Toshogu. As a result, industries such as lacquerware, wooden clogs (geta), and wooden furniture developed in Sunpu (modern-day Shizuoka). Even today, this has been passed down to industries based on traditional crafts and woodworking techniques, such as furniture, plastic models, and the footwear industry. AKAISHI was born in Shizuoka, where this DNA of manufacturing is alive, and continues to make shoes that restore foot health through walking.
