CAFE & BBQ TERRACE ABURU, a cafe restaurant located inside Miyako Messe in Kyoto, managed by the social experiment promotion venture BAKERU, will launch a 'Rainy Day Discount' campaign from June 7 (Sat) to June 30 (Mon), 2026. During this period, all customers who book a 'hands-free' plan at least two days in advance will receive a discount on their next visit equal to the day's payment amount multiplied by the precipitation probability (applicable for 30% probability or higher). One of the biggest challenges in the BBQ business is the massive food waste caused by last-minute cancellations due to rain. In BBQ beer gardens, which are premised on outdoor use, cancellations concentrate on days with bad weather, leading to the repeated annual disposal of fresh ingredients like Kyoto vegetables, meat, and fish prepared that morning. To address this, BAKERU has been running a rainy day discount campaign at its 'BACKYARD' facility in Yokohama since 2022. Based on this track record, CAFE & BBQ TERRACE ABURU in Kyoto will introduce the campaign for the first time this year. The higher the precipitation probability, the greater the savings for the customer, making it a design that allows customers to visit with peace of mind even on rainy days. Instead of canceling because it's raining, we encourage customers to visit precisely because it's raining. We hope to enjoy the rainy season positively with the local community as an initiative that balances customer benefits with food waste reduction.
