RankQuest (https://rank-quest.jp/column/column/how-to-seo/), which supports SEO for over 4,300 companies, has measured the click-through rates (CTR) by search ranking for client websites in the housing industry for June 2026. Additionally, the company compared these results with CTR data from the SEO industry to identify differences in trends between sectors.

In this survey, the housing industry’s CTR was 19.5% for 1st place, 8.5% for 2nd, and 8.0% for 3rd. There was an 11.0 percentage point gap between 1st and 2nd place, while the difference between 2nd and 3rd was only 0.5 points. When compared with the SEO industry, the housing sector ranked lower in 1st and 2nd positions but outperformed in positions 3 through 10.

1. Analysis of CTR by Search Ranking in the Housing Industry

1-1. 1st place CTR at 19.5%, 2nd and 3rd places differ by only 0.5 points

Looking at CTR by ranking in the housing industry, 1st place had the highest rate at 19.5%, followed by 8.5% for 2nd and 8.0% for 3rd.

The number of clicks, impressions, and CTR by ranking are as follows.

The CTR gap between 1st and 2nd place is 11.0 percentage points. In this analysis, the CTR for 1st place was significantly higher than for all lower positions.

Meanwhile, the difference between 2nd place (8.5%) and 3rd place (8.0%) is only 0.5 percentage points. Based on this data, 2nd and 3rd positions are relatively close in performance.

From 3rd to 4th place, CTR dropped sharply by 4.1 points, from 8.0% to 3.9%. In contrast, the difference between 4th (3.9%) and 5th (3.8%) is just 0.1 points. From 5th to 6th, CTR decreased by 1.8 points, and from 6th onward, it gradually declined from 2.0% to 0.8%.

This shows that CTR in the housing industry does not decrease uniformly with each drop in ranking. In this distribution, distinct CTR levels appear across ranking bands: '1st', '2nd–3rd', '4th–5th', and '6th and below'.

When setting SEO performance targets, it is essential to evaluate based on these ranking bands rather than applying a uniform improvement rate across all positions.

1-2. 2nd place received the most clicks — CTR and traffic volume must be assessed separately

While 1st place had the highest CTR, 2nd place received the most clicks at 4,104. This was followed by 3,266 clicks for 3rd place and 1,151 for 4th. 1st place received only 604 clicks.

This discrepancy is due to significant differences in impression volume. 1st place had 3,104 impressions, while 2nd place had 48,276 and 3rd place had 40,997.

Thus, even with a high CTR, low impressions result in fewer clicks. Conversely, lower-ranked positions with high impressions can significantly contribute to organic search traffic.

The total clicks from 1st to 3rd place amounted to 7,974, accounting for 70.3% of the total 11,344 clicks. While the top three positions are the primary traffic sources, positions 4 to 10 still generated 3,370 clicks, or 29.7% of total clicks.

Therefore, in addition to aiming for 1st place on major keywords, it is crucial to identify and improve pages already ranking between 2nd and 10th with substantial impression volume.

Note that 1st place had far fewer impressions than 2nd and 3rd, so treating 19.5% CTR as a fixed benchmark for the entire housing industry requires caution. It is necessary to also analyze impression volume per ranking and the composition of target search queries.

2. Comparison with the SEO Industry: CTR from 3rd to 10th Place is Higher in the Housing Industry

Comparing CTR by ranking between the housing and SEO industries, the housing sector underperformed in 1st and 2nd places but surpassed the SEO industry from 3rd to 10th.

The housing industry’s 1st place CTR was 19.5%, 12.6 points below the SEO industry’s 32.1%. For 2nd place, housing was 8.5% versus SEO’s 22.2%, a 13.7-point gap — the largest negative difference in this comparison.

In contrast, at 3rd place, housing achieved 8.0% compared to SEO’s 2.5%, outperforming by 5.5 points — the largest positive gap observed.

From 4th place onward, housing consistently outperformed SEO. The CTR was 2.8 points higher at 4th, 2.9 points at 5th, and 1.4 points at 6th. From 7th to 10th, positive gaps of 0.6 to 0.9 points were confirmed.

The data shows that the housing industry’s CTR curve is lower at 1st and 2nd positions but relatively higher from 3rd onward compared to the SEO industry. A key characteristic is that pages ranked 3rd and below maintain higher CTRs than their SEO industry counterparts.

However, this result alone cannot determine why housing industry users clicked on specific pages. Multiple factors may be involved, including search query intent, branded search volume, device type, and SERP layout.

Therefore, conclusions such as 'users always compare multiple pages in the housing industry' should be avoided. These figures represent CTR distribution by ranking, not the reasons behind user click behavior.

3. Summary and Insights

This survey found that in the housing industry, CTR by ranking was 19.5% for 1st, 8.5% for 2nd, and 8.0% for 3rd.

The 11.0-point gap between 1st and 2nd place confirms that 1st place has a significantly higher CTR. In contrast, the differences between 2nd and 3rd (0.5 points) and 4th and 5th (0.1 points) are minimal. CTR does not decline uniformly but varies by ranking band.

Compared to the SEO industry, housing underperformed by 12.6 points at 1st and 13.7 points at 2nd. However, from 3rd to 10th, housing outperformed across the board, with the largest gap at 3rd place (+5.5 points).

Although 1st place had the highest CTR, 2nd place received the most clicks due to higher impressions. This underscores the need to evaluate SEO performance using impressions and click volume, not just rankings and CTR.

SEO and web managers should aim for top rankings on key keywords while also reviewing pages ranked 2nd to 10th that already receive substantial impressions for optimization opportunities.

Pages with high impressions but lower CTR than peers in the same ranking band should be reviewed for title tags, meta descriptions, and content-query alignment. It is vital to manage ranking improvement and CTR optimization as separate strategies.
