FLOSFIA Inc. (Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto) announced its selection as a finalist for the '2026 WIPO Global Awards,' hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The WIPO Global Awards is an official international recognition program by WIPO that honors small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and university spin-outs that create tangible value through innovation and creativity, with intellectual property (IP) strategy at the core of their business growth. Established in 2022, this is the fifth time the event has been held. The award is open to WIPO's 194 member states, and this year, FLOSFIA was chosen as one of 33 finalists from over 1,300 applications from 126 countries.

The final selection is based on a rigorous review by an independent international jury, from the following four perspectives: - Business Case and IP Portfolio: Market position of the innovation and establishment of competitive advantage through the IP portfolio. - IP Commercialization Strategy: Global expansion capability accompanied by an international IP strategy. - IP Culture within the Company: Integration of IP management into business strategy, internal policies, and human resource development. - Impact for a Better Society: Social impact contributing to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and diversity/inclusivity.

FLOSFIA has been promoting the commercialization of its 'GaO® Power Devices,' a next-generation power semiconductor that achieves both low loss and low cost, centered on the new material 'Corundum-type Gallium Oxide (α-Ga₂O₃)' from Kyoto University and its proprietary 'Mist Dry®' film deposition technology. These technologies are systematically protected by numerous intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and designs, both domestically and internationally, through an IP strategy deployed since its founding. The company believes its R&D leveraging this IP and its efforts toward mass production and social implementation through collaboration with multiple business partners were highly evaluated by WIPO.

The 11 final winning companies are scheduled to be announced on July 10, 2026, during the 'WIPO Assemblies' held at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

FLOSFIA has coined the term 'Semiconductor Ecology®' to describe the reduction of three environmental loads caused by semiconductors (energy, process, and materials), and aims to popularize the new 'Gallium Oxide' power semiconductor from Kyoto University as a concrete initiative.
