GK Design Souken Hiroshima announced the launch of 'AIVINT,' a new high-speed ferry for Setonaikai Kisen, on the Hiroshima-Kure-Matsuyama route on May 24. GK Design Souken Hiroshima was responsible for the ship's concept, exterior and interior design, and branding.
New High-Speed Ferry 'AIVINT'
This next-generation ferry features excellent propulsion and hull design, incorporating the 'Voith Linear Jet' from German manufacturer Voith, achieving both high-speed performance and fuel efficiency.
Under the theme of 'a new breeze' for the next era of Setonaikai Kisen, GK Design Souken Hiroshima handled the exterior, interior, and logo design.
The exterior design inherits elements from the company's previously designed cruise ferry 'SEAPASEO,' utilizing a combination of horizontal lines and diagonal forms to express the dynamism of catching the wind and moving forward.
The interior design features a bold yet simple color scheme, with a horizontal split between white and blue at waist height. This creates a relaxing atmosphere where passengers feel as if they are embraced by the sea, enhancing the calm and elegant travel experience of the Seto Inland Sea.
The ship's name, 'AIVINT'—combining A (Aki), I (Iyo), and VINT (German for 'wind')—was chosen through a public open call to foster attachment.
The logo design incorporates the ship's design theme of 'a new breeze' and 'horizontal and diagonal lines' and is applied across the hull.
GK Design Souken Hiroshima is a comprehensive design office operating across product, communication, urban environment, and architecture sectors, based on the philosophy of 'Business, Movement, and Research.'
