Gugenka Inc. (CEO: Masafumi Mikami) has announced its role in the production and planning of 'Virtual HIROSHIMA Station 2.u,' a metaverse project spearheaded by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and JR West Communications. The world officially launched on the VRChat platform on May 27, 2026.
This project represents a comprehensive renewal of the original Virtual Hiroshima Station, evolving into a platform for co-creation where user expression and creative activities are encouraged. The space is designed to facilitate partnerships with corporations and organizations while exploring integration with the physical world.
Features of the Virtual World The world is themed around 'Hiroshima Station after the last train,' offering an immersive environment that blends realistic station architecture with surreal VR aesthetics. Gugenka achieved this through a fusion of precise 3D modeling and '3D Gaussian Splatting' (3DGS). This cutting-edge technology captures real-world environments via photos and videos to reproduce lighting, reflections, and atmosphere with a level of realism previously difficult to achieve with traditional 3DCG modeling.
Opening Events and Activities To celebrate the launch, special events will commence on June 6, 2026: 1. Illustration Contest: In collaboration with the popular avatar 'Mamehinata,' users can submit illustrations for a chance to have their work displayed both in the virtual station and the physical Hiroshima Station in July 2026. 2. Virtual Talk Relay: A performance event featuring various VRChat creators and performers will be held on June 6 and 7.
Access Information Users can access the world for free via VRChat on PC, VR headsets, or mobile devices (iOS/Android). While entry is free, certain in-world items may require purchase. For optimal experience, PC or VR headset access is recommended as the mobile version may have functional limitations.
