MSC Co., Ltd. (Sendai, Miyagi; CEO: Takashi Mugitani), a company specializing in plastic recycling machinery development, resin modification, technical consulting, and education, will fully commission a proprietary plant at Toyama Kankyo Seibi Co., Ltd. in June 2026. The plant will process approximately 30,000 tons per year of household container-packaging plastics — equivalent to 80,000–90,000 households — and mass-produce the high-quality recycled material brand MC-Re®. Of the roughly 415,000 tons of container-packaging plastics routed annually through the Japan Containers and Packaging Recycling Association, approximately 213,000 tons could not be materially recycled due to contamination, odor, aluminum-deposited films, multi-layer materials, or paper-labeled films, and were instead incinerated or landfilled. MSC's proprietary technology recycles these difficult plastics into high-quality pellets. Three key technological features: (1) Physical cleaning with water only, eliminating chemical additives and minimizing environmental load. (2) Stable production of high-quality MC-Re® pellets with a recycled-content ratio exceeding 70%, up from the conventional ~30% used as filler; applicable to daily-use containers, auto parts, logistics materials, and infrastructure components such as cable troughs. (3) Patented technology (Patent No. 7627500; No. 7219904) adopted by Japan's Ministry of the Environment circular-economy demonstration program, now advancing to commercial scale. The April 2026 amendment to Japan's Resource Effective Utilization Promotion Act further reinforces enterprise demand for credible recycling routes, which this plant directly addresses.
