About OUI Inc. Company Name: OUI Inc. CEO: Eisuke Shimizu Established: July 15, 2016 Headquarters: 510 DF Building, 2-2-8 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo Business Description: Development, commercialization, and consulting services for pharmaceuticals and medical devices based on physicians' ideas.
OUI Inc. is a university-originated venture established in July 2016 by ophthalmologists from Keio University School of Medicine, with a mission to 'grow medicine.' They developed the 'Smart Eye Camera,' an iPhone-attachment medical device that enables eye examinations, from scratch and completed it in about a year and a half. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Despite the high possibility of preventing blindness with timely treatment, cataract-induced blindness remains a social issue in developing countries. As the Smart Eye Camera is a compact medical device used by attaching it to an iPhone, it enables ophthalmic examinations anywhere, regardless of location, such as in areas without electricity or disaster zones.
