SCICUS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Suginami-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takashi Ochiai) will publish the latest third issue of the journal "Graphic Medicine®" by the Japan Graphic Medicine Association on June 15, 2026. Simultaneously, the previously hard-to-find first and second issues will be released via Print-on-Demand (POD) to serve as a continuous archive for the practice and research of graphic medicine in Japan.

[Background and Challenges] In medicine, there exists a "patient experience" that cannot be captured by diagnosis names alone. However, there is no established methodology for how to share these experiences within society and connect them to healthcare professionals, patients, education, and research. Recently, "Graphic Medicine," a field that shares and examines medical and illness experiences through manga and comic expressions, has gained international attention.

[What is Graphic Medicine®?] Graphic Medicine® is an international practice and research field that shares and examines medical and illness experiences through manga and comic expressions. It is increasingly utilized in contexts such as medical education, patient support, narrative medicine, and medical humanities. In Japan, the Japan Graphic Medicine Association was established in 2018 to accumulate practices and discussions through journal publications, research meetings, and events.

[About Issue 3] The feature theme is "How far can patient narratives move society? - Where GM meets Patient Experience Data (PED)." It examines how patient experiences can be connected to decision-making in medicine and society. The issue covers topics such as animation expressions of mental illness, ethical considerations in medical manga, and methodology for medical education using manga.
