[Sex Education Outreach Class Example] Implementation of Sex Education Class for Staff

Recently, a sex education class was conducted for the staff (childcare workers, psychologists, child welfare officers, etc.) of a children's care facility in Tokyo.

The training was conducted by gathering real-world questions from the front lines through a pre-training survey and allocating time for direct answers, targeting the staff who work daily with children living in the facility with various backgrounds. Participating staff expressed a strong concern about wanting to respond appropriately to consultations from children, and wanting to quickly notice "SOS signs" hidden in children's behavior to strengthen the system for preventing risks such as sexual abuse, unintended pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections.

Therefore, the training included group work sessions for case studies, such as "In this situation, how can we respond to convey appropriate knowledge without hurting the child?" and was developed as a program for in-depth learning from experts. After the training, many staff members showed a sincere attitude, expressing their desire to be "the closest and safest adult to whom children can always talk about sex."
