Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. (hereinafter, Hamamatsu Photonics) and Daio Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, Daio Engineering) have applied for and been adopted into the "2026 Grant Project for Research, Development, and Demonstration Contributing to the Advancement of Automobile Recycling" publicly offered by the Japan Foundation for Automobile Recycling (hereinafter, J-FAR), with their proposal titled "LEDification of Lighting for Black Plastic Sorting and ASR Recycling Verification."

This project aims to develop a low-heat mid-infrared LED line lighting unit and work on improving the safety of black plastic sorting derived from automobiles. By implementing it in sorting machines and evaluating its performance, the project will identify issues in ASR* recycling and aim to promote the use of recycled materials for automobiles.

*ASR (Automobiles Shredder Residue): Residue remaining after shredding end-of-life vehicles.
