Hotel Urashima, known for its cave hot spring 'Bokido', to reopen Nisshokan on August 1, 2026

Urashima Tourism Hotel Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 1165-2 Katsuura, Nachikatsuura Town, Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture; President: Tetsuya Matsushita, hereinafter referred to as Urashima Tourism Hotel) will reopen Nisshokan at Hotel Urashima on August 1, 2026.

Hotel Urashima will celebrate its 70th anniversary in December 2026.

Marking this milestone, and to provide guests with an even more comfortable stay, we will be extensively renovating Nisshokan as a first phase, refreshing its lobby, restaurant, and guest rooms, and reopening on August 1. Within the facility, where tradition and modern comfort harmonize, you can experience a unique "romantic liberation" through the sound of the tides echoing in the caves and hot spring retreats integrated with nature.

The symbolic lobby area embodies the essence of design unique to this region.

With the concept of "ICHIGO ICHIE" (once in a lifetime encounter), symbolic art columns featuring motifs of cranes, pine trees, and waves from Kii-Katsuura, rendered with traditional techniques, invite guests into an unknown romance.

Together with a welcome wall imbued with craftsmanship, we cater to the diverse ways guests choose to spend their time, elevating the stay itself into vivid memories.

New Restaurant "Chef’s Live Kitchen"

The new restaurant is a stage for culinary delights that satisfy all five senses, based on the concept of "TSUMUGI," where the blessings of Kishu resonate and connect guests to the land. Facing the sea of Kii-Katsuura, this restaurant is where the "freshness" and "vibrancy" unique to this region echo.

The sea, art, and the sheer passion for food all come together to create a unique and unforgettable spatial experience.

New Guest Rooms

The concept for the new guest rooms is "WABI SABI," which cherishes the beauty of emptiness.

The vivid contrast with the elegant public areas leads guests into deep relaxation.

The bed style, a modern reinterpretation of tatami spaces, gracefully blends Japanese warmth with Western functionality.

Furthermore, "Urashima Blue," symbolizing the sea of Kishu, adds a dignified elegance to the serene interior.

These are high-quality guest rooms designed to resonate with the hearts of all guests and create true rest.

New Corridor Area "Sea Tunnel"

The approximately 90-meter corridor connecting the accommodation buildings will be reborn as the "Sea Tunnel," a revolving space where the world of the sea unfolds.

Upon entering, you will be immersed in the sea of Nachikatsuura, with numerous sea creatures welcoming guests. Beyond that, a "Sea Undersea Stand Bar" will appear, where you can sample local plum wines, sake, and mandarin orange juices.

Further inside, the shop "Urashima Select," offering a curated selection of souvenirs, will also be available, allowing you to fully enjoy your time in the corridor.

Special Renewal Opening Plan

In anticipation of the renewal opening, we are offering a special accommodation plan. At "Chef’s Live Kitchen URASHIMA," the newly renovated restaurant in Nisshokan, you can enjoy meals full of live excitement, such as "sound" and "aroma."

In addition, at the dinner buffet, in the Japanese kappo (traditional Japanese cuisine) area, chefs will prepare fresh tuna sushi unique to Katsuura right before your eyes, along with other new and visually appealing dishes such as chef's original low-temperature cooked steak and boiled pasta.

About Urashima Tourism Hotel

Opened in December 1956, Hotel Urashima is a hot spring resort with approximately 70 years of history. It boasts a rich source of high-concentration, free-flowing hot spring water abundant in sulfur, with six bathing areas within the facility. Among these, the large cave hot spring "Bokido" (meaning "forgetting to return"), praised by the Kishu feudal lord Tokugawa Yorinori as "so wonderful one forgets to return," is a unique experience offering natural beauty and views of the Pacific waves, beloved by many guests.

For dining, we offer a variety of styles, including buffets featuring abundant local ingredients such as seafood and meat raised in the Kumano region and Kumano Sea, as well as kaiseki (multi-course) meals.

Furthermore, we have many signature features to enhance your stay, such as the highest elevation difference (77 meters) escalator in Japan and the free shuttle boat "Urashima Maru."

Hotel Urashima is currently undergoing a large-scale renovation plan spanning several years. As the first phase, Nisshokan is being renovated and is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2026. In December 2026, we will celebrate our 70th anniversary and, with your support, we will strive to build a hotel that looks towards the next 100 years.
