On June 21, 2026 (Sunday), Chiiki Tomoiki Lab will hold a practical report session titled, "Next-Generation Boarding House 'Kyoto Solidaires' Project: Promoting Youth Residency via Vacant Rooms in Elderly Households."

Overview The Kyoto Prefecture 'Kyoto Solidaires' project is a residency initiative designed to combat the current trend of many people in their 20s leaving the city, by encouraging young people to settle down in Kyoto.

Students stay in the homes of compatible elderly residents at an affordable cost. Through daily greetings, conversations, sharing hobbies, and experiencing local culture like the Jizo-bon festival or regional events, students gain a sense of life in Kyoto, fostering ties and attachment to the community to promote long-term residency.
