FSC Japan, which promotes the international forest certification system FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®), held a special awards ceremony for companies and organizations that have long contributed to the spread and development of FSC certification in Japan during its "FSC Japan 20th Anniversary Event" on May 28, 2026. Since its establishment in 2006, FSC Japan has been committed to promoting responsible forest management and procurement. This year, marking its 20th anniversary, the organization held these awards to express gratitude to the pioneers who have supported the development of FSC certification in Japan from its early days to the present. The awards recognized organizations that contributed to the development of FSC certification in various fields, including forest management, wood and paper product manufacturing and distribution, printing, construction, and consumer outreach. Achievements such as the first certifications in Japan, long-term maintenance of certification, promotion in the construction sector, and expansion of consumer awareness were honored. The event was attended by stakeholders from various industries, including forestry, timber, construction, paper, printing, distribution, and retail. Participants reflected on the 20-year journey of FSC certification in Japan and discussed expectations for building a sustainable society. The event also featured a keynote speech by Noboru Yasui, Representative of Sakura Architectural Design Group and Director of NPO team Timberize, titled "Creating 'Wooden Architecture' and 'Wooden Spaces' in Cities: The Past 20 Years and the Next 20 Years of Wooden Construction," followed by a panel discussion with the award recipients.
