Yata Sangyo Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture) and Kiwa Sangyo Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato Ward, Tokyo) have jointly developed a golf ball rental system that supports payments using the Japanese yen-backed stablecoin 'JPYC (J-P-Y-C)', and commenced operations on July 10, 2026, at the golf practice range 'Torigasaka GC' (located at 2108 Yoshihara-cho, Zentsuji City, Kagawa Prefecture). The introduction of stablecoin payments to golf ball rental machines is believed to be the first such initiative in Japan (based on joint research by both companies as of July 2026, among domestic automated golf ball rental services).
Users can simply scan the QR code displayed on the rental machine using a smartphone wallet app and pay 250 JPYC to receive 60 golf balls. No cash, prepaid cards, or installation of dedicated apps are required. Once the payment is confirmed on the blockchain, the machine automatically dispenses the balls.
By scanning the QR code and paying with JPYC, balls are automatically dispensed. During the campaign period, 60 balls can be rented for 250 JPYC.

- Designed to automatically process payments made during downtime after power outages or communication failures, preventing missed transactions.
- Incorrect payments with mismatched amounts are automatically recorded and eligible for refunds.
Background of Implementation
Since the official launch of the Japanese yen-backed stablecoin 'JPYC' in October 2025, the use of stablecoins for in-store payments has rapidly expanded across Japan. To address the need for cashless solutions and reduce cash handling and collection costs in golf practice ranges—where unmanned operations are standard—both companies developed this system. They plan to explore expanding to additional products, locations, and other unmanned vending machines in the future.
Glossary
【Stablecoin】
A digital currency designed to maintain a stable value by being pegged to fiat currencies such as the US dollar or Japanese yen. In Japan, stablecoins are legally recognized as 'electronic payment instruments' under the amended Fund Settlement Law, enabling their use for transfers and payments on blockchains, similar to bank transfers. US dollar-pegged stablecoins are widely used overseas as payment and remittance infrastructure.
【JPYC (J-P-Y-C)】
A Japanese yen-backed stablecoin issued by JPYC Co., Ltd. Each JPYC is fixed at 1:1 with the Japanese yen and can be redeemed for yen at any time. In October 2025, it became the first yen-backed stablecoin issued by a fund transfer business operator under the amended Fund Settlement Law to be officially launched in Japan. It is compatible with multiple blockchains, including Polygon.
【Wallet (Wallet App)】
A smartphone application used to hold and transfer digital assets on a blockchain. Multiple apps, including the globally popular MetaMask, support JPYC, allowing users to continue using their preferred wallets.
