Call for Entries: 61st NHK Disability Welfare Award Essay Contest

For the 61st NHK Disability Welfare Award, we are calling for essays from people with disabilities and those who walk alongside them to broaden interest and understanding of disability welfare. There are two categories: 'Category for Individuals with Disabilities' and 'Category for Those Walking Alongside Individuals with Disabilities'. Entries must be original, unpublished works of up to 8,000 characters, and the submission period is from June 1, 2026, to July 31, 2026. The results are scheduled to be announced in mid-November 2026, and the grand prize winner will receive 500,000 yen. The Kunio Yanagida Award is also available for works that demonstrate a perspective on how to carve out a life despite disabilities. Applications can be made by mail or through the NHK Welfare and Culture Organization website.
