Ebisu Beach
According to the water quality inspection results for beaches in Aichi Prefecture for fiscal year Reiwa 8, two of Nishio City’s four beaches — Oo-ura Beach (Sakushima) and Ebisu Beach — received the highest water quality rating of 'AA', while Miyazaki Beach and Terabe Beach were rated 'B'. Across Aichi Prefecture, out of 22 beaches, only 5 achieved the 'AA' rating, with 17 rated 'B'. The 'AA' rating is reserved exclusively for beaches with exceptionally clean water.
No More 'Dirty Beach' Labels! Two Consecutive Years of Top-Tier 'AA' Water Quality
In the past, Nishio City’s beaches were widely perceived as among the dirtiest in Japan, based on rankings derived from water quality surveys.
However, in recent years, locals have noticed a visible improvement, often commenting that the seawater has become clearer. The latest results from Aichi Prefecture confirm that this improvement is not just perceptual — it is now a measurable fact. Notably, both Oo-ura Beach (Sakushima) and Ebisu Beach have maintained the 'AA' rating for the second consecutive year (following Reiwa 7), ensuring continued safety and cleanliness.
Nishio’s beaches are no longer dirty — they are now among the cleanest in the prefecture!
※ Only three beaches in Aichi Prefecture have maintained the 'AA' rating for two consecutive years: Oo-ura and Ebisu in Nishio City, and Irago Beach in Tahara City.

Comment from a City Official
We are delighted that Oo-ura and Ebisu Beaches have again received the 'AA' rating for the second consecutive year, and that all of Nishio’s beaches are now recognized as clean and safe. Beyond water quality, our beaches benefit from municipal cleaning efforts, as well as volunteer cleanups by local residents and corporate groups, resulting in pristine sandy shores perfect for barefoot walks. We hope to shed the outdated image of 'dirty' waters and invite more people to enjoy swimming in our beautiful, clean seas.
