Northeastern Japan's Largest Beer Festival, Attracting 70,000 People, Transforms 350m of JR Koriyama Station Area into a Giant Beer Garden for "Summer Festa IN KORIYAMA 2026"!!

This year marks the 30th Summer Festa (the 5th held in front of the station). Last year, we welcomed a total of 70,000 visitors over three days.

Koriyama City boasts the second-largest economy in the Tohoku region. A massive beer garden will take over 350 meters of the city's main artery, Koriyama Station Front Avenue. The road, usually bustling with cars, will be filled with beer lovers during this period. The scene is truly spectacular and one of the largest in Eastern Japan!

History of the Beer Festival (Summer Festa)

From September to October 1993, the "Germany-France Convention Study Tour" organized by JETRO Fukushima was formed. Mayor Eiji Fujimori served as advisor, and Chairman Zenbei Ohtaka led the delegation of 18 representatives from the economic, political, and prefectural sectors on a study tour of Germany and France. During this trip, they visited the "Oktoberfest," the world's largest beer festival held in Munich, Germany. The venue, a vast 42-hectare site with numerous large and small tents, attracts approximately 6.5 million visitors from around the world each year, who enjoy lively Bavarian folk music with a beer mug in hand.

This inspired the idea of starting a similar grand event in Koriyama.

The first event was held from August 11 to 15, 1995, at Koriyama Culture Park. Co-hosted with the "Great Godzilla Expo," it was a great success with 81,083 visitors. The second event was held at Koriyama General Gymnasium. From the 3rd event (1997) to the 25th event (2019), it was held at Kaiseizan Park, where inviting bands from Germany for performances and toasts became a tradition. However, the event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the spread of COVID-19. It resumed in front of Koriyama Station in 2022 for the first time in three years, with the aim of creating vibrancy in the city and supporting local restaurants. Last year (2025), a total of 70,000 people visited over three days, with about half of the weekend visitors coming from outside the city, and it has grown into one of the largest summer festivals in the Tohoku region and a great way to get to know Koriyama City.
