Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture (Mayor: Eiki Nakayama) will hold a collaborative event with the long-established fruit specialty store "Shinjuku Takano" and Ginza NAGANO. The theme fruit is "Azumino Summer-Autumn Strawberries."

Azumino is one of Japan's leading producers of summer-autumn strawberries, utilizing its cool summer climate and cold groundwater from the Northern Alps. This event will allow participants to compare three varieties of summer-autumn strawberries and enjoy a limited mini-course featuring seasonal ingredients from Azumino. It's a rare opportunity to taste "Amaazumi," a new variety born in Azumino with limited harvest, in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Interaction with a strawberry producer

On the day of the event, Mr. Taichi Yamada, a summer-autumn strawberry producer from Azumino, will share many cultivation secrets and local information.

Amaazumi

Azumino is a production area for "ever-bearing" strawberries, known as "summer-autumn strawberries," which are harvested in summer and autumn. For about 20 years, "JA Azumi" has been leading efforts to promote their cultivation as a local specialty. Typically, summer-autumn strawberries are acidic and often used for processing in the hot summer due to their refreshing taste. However, the new variety "Amaazumi" is characterized by its sweetness, low acidity, and fresh, elegant aroma.

More details on its birth story can be found on the city's official website.
