Tochigi Wagyu Bulgogi Bibimbap offered at the special 12th-anniversary price of 3,000 JPY (tax included)
Kakurenbo opened on July 7, 2014, in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture. For the past 12 years, the restaurant has focused on 'Korean cuisine enjoyable even for those who dislike spicy food,' earning affection from a wide range of generations, from children to seniors. The restaurant emphasizes ingredient selection, using minimal additives in its ingredients and seasonings, incorporating local produce, and carefully preparing each dish.
For this commemorative menu, Kakurenbo is using 'Tochigi Wagyu,' a local branded beef, for the first time. Combining the rich, high-quality marbling of ribeye cuts with the vibrant vegetables typical of bibimbap and the restaurant's signature gochujang, this dish has been crafted as a special offering worthy of the 12th anniversary. This item, which would typically be priced in a higher range if added to the regular menu, is being offered at a special price as a token of gratitude to loyal customers.
Key Features of the 12th Anniversary Menu
1. First use of local branded beef 'Tochigi Wagyu' at Kakurenbo
This special edition, available only for the 12th anniversary, offers a refined taste of marbled fat and premium quality unlike previous versions of the bulgogi bibimbap.
2. A Tochigi-style Korean dish featuring local vegetables
By combining the appeal of Korean cuisine with the quality of local ingredients, this dish is presented as a uniquely regional offering.
3. Adjustable spiciness for enjoyment by children and seniors
Kakurenbo is a Korean restaurant that allows customization of spiciness levels. For this menu, the amount of gochujang can be adjusted, making it accessible and enjoyable even for those who are sensitive to spice or for young children.
4. A dish only possible at a restaurant that prioritizes ingredients
At Kakurenbo, ingredient quality is prioritized in all aspects, from salt to seasonings. The restaurant sources carefully, using Korean-made gochujang and fermented kimchi, focusing on key flavor components to achieve both palatability and satisfaction.
Thoughts Behind the 12th Anniversary
Owner Keishi Noguchi was inspired to pursue a career in the food industry after experiencing strong demand for Japanese cuisine abroad during his study abroad in New Zealand. After returning to Japan, he gained experience working at restaurants, attending culinary school, and working at Japanese and washoku restaurants. He first opened independently in Oyama City in 2010, and then launched 'Kakurenbo Korean Home-Style Cuisine' in Tochigi City in July 2014.
In the early days, starting in an unfamiliar area with no personal connections, there were days with zero customers. Nevertheless, through consistent operation, creating a family-friendly environment, emphasizing ingredient quality, and building word-of-mouth, the restaurant has grown into a beloved establishment supported by a broad customer base, particularly those with health-conscious lifestyles.
The owner shared the following comment:
Owner Keishi Noguchi's Comment
'It has been exactly 12 years since I moved to Tochigi City, and about 16 years since I first became independent in Oyama City. I have been able to continue thanks to the support of everyone. To express my gratitude, I have prepared a special bulgogi bibimbap using Tochigi's pride, 'Tochigi Wagyu,' available in limited quantities. I would be delighted if this dish not only satisfies taste buds but also encourages people to pay attention to the quality of ingredients.'
