ABEMA to Provide Exclusive Live Coverage of the 2nd National High School Mahjong Championship

ABEMA, the 'Future of TV,' is pleased to announce its first-ever exclusive live broadcast of the '2nd National High School Mahjong Championship' on its Mahjong Channel.

The National High School Mahjong Championship was established in 2025 in response to the growing number of young people taking up mahjong as a competitive sport, fueled by the development of the 'M-League' professional mahjong league launched in 2018. In the inaugural tournament last summer, 572 participants from 286 teams representing 180 schools nationwide took part, with Tokyo Metropolitan Koishikawa Secondary Education School emerging as the champion.

The 2nd tournament will hold qualifiers in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka in July 2026. The 16 winning teams (32 individuals) will advance to the semifinals and finals to compete for the title of Japan's best high school team.

ABEMA will provide live coverage of selected portions of the semifinals and the entire final match, showcasing the intense competition among high school students.
