Aeon Agri Create Co., Ltd. announced that plum tomatoes grown at the 'Kazo Circular Economy Research Base' (Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture), a facility established in February this year through a joint research project with Toyohashi Biomass Solutions, have been certified under the 'JAS for Agricultural Products Cultivated by Hydroponics using Probioponics Technology' (hereinafter 'Probioponics JAS').
The plum tomatoes produced will be marketed as 'Aeon Farm's Plum Tomatoes Leading to the Future' and featured in the Aeon Group's 'Erabou Fair,' an initiative for environmentally conscious products, sold at selected stores in the Kanto region. Sales will begin at Aeon Kasukabe store on May 29, 2026, with plans to expand distribution gradually.
Aeon Agri Create has been pursuing this initiative to demonstrate a new circular agricultural model utilizing regional resources. With this production and certification, the demonstration has moved to the next stage toward social implementation.
The plum tomatoes were cultivated using Probioponics technology, utilizing energy generated via methane fermentation from agricultural residues at Aeon's Saitama Kuki Farm and food waste from specialty stores at Aeon Mall Kasukabe, operated by Aeon Mall Co., Ltd. This initiative aims to realize sustainable agriculture while recycling resources generated within the local area.
The 'Probioponics JAS' certification indicates that these plum tomatoes are produced and managed using only biomass-derived nitrogen that has been mineralized through Probioponics technology. Moving forward, the company will continue to share these initiatives with more customers through sales and expand the possibilities of circular agriculture.
Aeon Agri Create will continue to strive for providing sustainable agricultural produce that is in harmony with nature, ecosystems, and society, balancing the sustainability of natural resources with the continuous development of business activities.

[What is Probioponics?]
Normally, organic matter rots in water. However, by utilizing the function of microorganisms under specific conditions, this technology can decompose organic matter in water just as it does in soil, converting it into nitrogen that plants can utilize.
