On July 7–8, 2026, the world's premier competitive programming championship, 'AtCoder World Tour Finals 2026' (AWTF, hosted by AtCoder Inc.), will take place. In the Heuristic division, where only 12 finalists from around the globe are selected, three engineers from ALGO ARTIS—Matsuo (Principal Algorithm Engineer, 2nd place in 2025), Kajiwara, and Kitahara—have secured their spots.

About AtCoder World Tour Finals 2026 Heuristic

The 'AtCoder World Tour Finals' is an invitation-only global championship hosted annually by the competitive programming platform 'AtCoder'. It features two divisions—Algorithm and Heuristic—with only the top 12 annual scorers in each division qualifying. It is widely recognized as the world’s most elite competitive programming event.

In the Heuristic division, where ALGO ARTIS’s three engineers will compete, participants are challenged to design and implement algorithms that produce high-quality solutions under time constraints for problems where finding the optimal solution is extremely difficult.

Human vs. AI Exhibition Match

For the second consecutive year, sponsor OpenAI will host a 'Human vs. AI Exhibition Match' pitting human contestants against AI agents. The special award 'Humanity Prevails Award' will be presented to any contestant who defeats the AI and also wins the overall championship.

Three ALGO ARTIS Engineers Qualify, Including Matsuo, 2nd Place in 2025

In the 2025 edition of the 'AtCoder World Tour Finals 2025 Heuristic', ALGO ARTIS’s Matsuo achieved 2nd place globally.

For the 2026 tournament, Matsuo will be joined by Kajiwara and Kitahara, making a total of three representatives from ALGO ARTIS.

Mitsuru Matsuo (terry_u16 / rank: 9)

Principal Algorithm Engineer, ALGO ARTIS

I am deeply honored to qualify for AWTF for the second consecutive year, a tournament that determines the pinnacle of competitive programming. While AI has advanced significantly over the past year, so have human competitors. I believe this year’s competition will showcase a different kind of battle. I narrowly missed first place last year, and this time, I will give my all to claim the championship.

Kengo Kajiwara (MathGorilla / rank: 11)

Qualifying for AWTF has long been one of my major personal goals. I am thrilled to stand on this stage. I won’t stop here—I will give my absolute best to aim for victory. I’m also excited about the exhibition match against OpenAI. I’ll do my utmost to deliver a performance that entertains and inspires the audience.

Hiroaki Kitahara (eijirou / rank: 2)

I’m excited to compete against the world’s top players on the highest stage in competitive programming. The exhibition match against OpenAI is a rare and valuable opportunity, and as a human player, I aim to deliver a performance that lives up to expectations.
