Part 1: Principles, Overview, Applications, and Technological Development Trends of Aerogel-Based Materials
【Purpose of the Lecture】
Aerogels are a general term for dried gel materials with extremely high porosity and numerous pores smaller than 100 nm. Silica (SiO2) aerogels are well known as high-performance thermal insulation materials and are already in practical use, with applications expanding.
Recently, they have also attracted attention as overheating and fire-spreading prevention materials for EV batteries. This lecture will provide an overview of the theory, fabrication methods (mainly supercritical drying), physical properties, characteristics, and applications of aerogel materials, focusing on silica.
It will also cover flexible bio-polymer-based aerogels, which have seen increasing research in recent years.
