Name "Mint" Chosen for "World's Smallest Penguin" Chick at Hokkaido's Only Permanent Exhibit

AOAO SAPPORO, an urban aquarium in Sapporo, has announced the name "Mint" for its fairy penguin chick born in March 2026.

The chick was born on March 9, 2026. From May 23 to June 7, the aquarium held an open call for names, receiving 4,547 submissions. The staff chose "Mint" with the wish that the penguin will bring a refreshing presence to visitors.

Starting June 13, the aquarium will host the third part of the "Happy Happy Penguin 2026" event. Visitors will receive an original card, and new merchandise and limited-edition menu items will be available. With this birth, the total number of fairy penguins at the aquarium has reached seven.
