The popular program "Dolphin & Seal Ocean Live," renewed in March this year, combines dynamic animal performances with large-screen video projections, delivering an immersive live experience. Front-row seats offer the thrilling splash of water powerful enough to cool you down—bring raincoats and picnic sheets and enjoy getting soaked, a unique summer tradition at Aqua World Oarai. Dramatic schooling performance by sardines: "IWASHI LIFE" Summer Version

Our popular program "IWASHI LIFE" showcases the strength and vitality of sardines surviving in the wild, with seasonal-themed performances. The current summer version highlights the energetic schooling behavior as sardines gather food to store nutrients ahead of winter spawning. This is presented with dynamic visuals inspired by towering cumulonimbus clouds over the summer sea. Additional effects, such as stormy skies and flashes of lightning, dramatically enhance the entire large tank. Don't miss this seasonal-only "IWASHI LIFE" experience.

Special events themed around iconic elements of a Japanese summer!

We present various programs themed around traditional Japanese summer motifs, including special tank exhibits, educational talks, and limited-time food. The aquarium is decorated with lanterns and fans, creating a lively summer festival atmosphere. Guests of all ages, from children to adults, can enjoy a nostalgic Japanese summer while discovering the charm of marine life.

● Special Exhibit Tank – Octopus and Squid

Giant Octopus and Golden Cuttlefish

Inspired by festival food stalls, this special tank displays octopuses (Giant Octopus) and squids (Golden Cuttlefish). Though closely related, we clearly explain the differences in their body structures, ecology, and unique features.

● Otter Feeding Time – "Chilly Ice Festival"

Using ice in the presentation, we introduce the ecology of the Canadian river otter, which inhabits snowy regions. We explain their physical adaptations and lifestyle in cold environments, along with their feeding behavior. If timing allows, you may also see their adorable play with ice.

● Penguin Feeding Time – "Everyone, Let's Stream Fish!?"

Inspired by流水そーめん (nagashi-sōmen), we stream fish such as horse mackerel and sand lance, allowing penguins to skillfully peck and eat them. Watch their cute lineup waiting for food, and also enjoy the powerful, energetic way they snap at the moving prey.

Simultaneous Collaboration Event with Sumikko Gurashi

We are also hosting a collaboration event with "Sumikko Gurashi," beloved by all ages, from July 16 (Thu), 2026 to September 23 (Wed, Holiday). This marks the fourth consecutive year and fourth event overall. This year, we feature the special exhibition "Tails and Sea Tails," focusing on the tails of various marine creatures, along with the annual indoor scavenger hunt, collaboration food, and merchandise. Join Sumikko characters to discover new charms of marine life.
