Inheriting Cinema Chairs to Citizens: 'Chair Inheritance Event' to be Held at the Site of the Former Tanukikoji 5-chome Cinema

Following the closure of a cinema that has been beloved for many years in Tanukikoji 5-chome, Sapporo, the building owner 'Tanii Co., Ltd.' and 'Ark Co., Ltd.', which operates the LIVE HOUSE / CLUB 'SYNC north' scheduled to open on the site in the summer of 2026, will hold a special event to give away the chairs actually used in the cinema to citizens.

In 1925, the first cinema in Sapporo, 'Sanyukan', opened at this location. It was rebuilt in 1981, operating as a two-screen system with 'Toho Plaza' and 'Plaza 2'. Later, in 2020, it became a four-theater cinema.

The seats replaced by Toho Plaza in 2006 were used in Theaters 1 and 4, while the seats replaced by the cinema that moved in in 2020 were used in Theaters 2 and 3.

This event was planned with the purpose of passing on the cinema chairs, which have supported Sapporo's culture for many years, into the lives of the city's people, rather than discarding them, to preserve them as memories of the city for the future.

The chairs that have supported countless stories will now carve out new stories in the lives of citizens.

Participants can actually detach the chairs at the venue and take them home as they are.
