AUTHENTIC JAPAN, operator of the search service "COCOHELI", launched a special webpage "Shiretoko Safety Project" on May 12, 2026. The site highlights safety measures developed through public-private collaboration following the 2022 Shiretoko sightseeing boat accident. Initiatives include installing proprietary GPS base stations in areas with poor cellular reception, deploying COCOHELI receivers to police, fire, and coast guard units, and providing free GPS transmitters for sightseeing boats and trekkers. The project aims to establish Shiretoko as a model for tourism safety DX across Japan.
