Artoon!, an art-focused creator group operated by baton Inc. (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yosuke Kinugawa), released their second original song, 'Baka to Kusuri,' on YouTube on Thursday, May 28.
Founded by members from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Artoon! operates under the concept of 'making art more accessible.' Following their first original song, 'Rari-koppai,' released on Thursday, March 19, they released 'Baka to Kusuri' ( https://youtu.be/ExEzZJFNnHk ) on YouTube at 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 28.
Like their first release, all aspects of this second song—including songwriting, lyrics, vocals, strings arrangement, recording, mixing, mastering, and the filming/editing and direction of the music video—were handled by the members themselves. Oban wrote the lyrics and music, and Okeie took on the challenge of directing for the first time.
Artoon!'s new song is a high-speed rock track featuring a double-vocal performance by Okeie and Oban. The track utilizes a double-vocal arrangement, with drummer Oban, who also wrote the lyrics and music, participating in vocals. His rap parts, in particular, add a sharp accent to the song with his drummer-specific sense of rhythm and word delivery. Vocalist Okeie sings the melody straight, further elevating the exhilaration typical of a rock track.
The rushing band sound, the contrast between singing and rapping, and the energy that engages the audience—this is a new rock tune from Artoon! that truly shines in a live setting. The music video portrays a person struggling to find their own salvation while holding onto regrets.
The theme set by Oban, who wrote the song, is 'There is no cure for being a fool, but fools can still find ways to be saved.' Okeie, who directed the video, delved into the image of a lovable person who cannot live efficiently, knows pain through detours, and is somehow endearing. Intertwining nostalgic scenery with impactful scenes, the video depicts the world of the song where regret and impulse intersect.
Furthermore, the group is scheduled to hold their first music live performance on Thursday, August 27. The four members of the music group—Okeie, Yano, Ikeda, and Oban—will perform. The art group will also participate in the production and costumes for the concert.
