In a joint research project involving Biologging Solutions, Inc. (the 'Company'), the Natural Parks Foundation Kamikochi Branch, and Specially Appointed Professor Masayuki Izumiyama of Shinshu University, the Japanese deer inhabitation in Kamikochi has been investigated. Utilizing the Company's 'LoggLaw G2C' GPS collar tracking device and the 'Animal Portal' website for wildlife damage control, it was confirmed for the first time through GPS data that Japanese deer are wintering in the forests of the Northern Alps, Kamikochi (at altitudes of approximately 1,500 to 1,600 meters or higher).
Background of the Survey Kamikochi, located in the Chubu Sangaku National Park, is a mountain resort area at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, boasting one of the most diverse natural environments in Japan. However, reports of Japanese deer sightings and damage to native plants have increased in recent years. Understanding the behavior of these deer is a critical research challenge for implementing effective measures. Previously, it was believed that deer migrated to warmer, lower altitudes during the harsh winter months.
Survey Overview and Role of Technology The research team captured a female Japanese deer near Taisho Pond in Kamikochi and attached a GPS collar to track its movements. The following technologies were utilized:

Survey Results Analysis of long-term tracking data revealed that the Japanese deer stayed in the forests of Kamikochi at altitudes exceeding 1,600 meters throughout the winter. This is a significant finding suggesting the possibility of year-round residency in Kamikochi, contrary to the seasonal migration previously assumed. Furthermore, the individual was found to be pregnant, suggesting that breeding may also be occurring in the area.
Future Prospects The Company plans to attach additional GPS collars in the 2026 fiscal year and will continue this joint research. We will continue to contribute to the realization of science-based wildlife management through collaborations with national and research institutions.
