[Equipment Life Extension Survey] 1 in 3 Companies Stop at Regular Inspections. 80% Cannot Turn IoT Adoption into 'Predictive Maintenance' Proposals

Bizcube Consulting Co., Ltd., which provides the long-term equipment repair management service 'LC-Cube', conducted a survey on the 'Actual Conditions and Future Prospects of Initiatives for Extending the Life of Equipment' among 228 sales and business management professionals involved in the manufacture, sale, construction, and maintenance of equipment machinery, as well as trading companies and agencies.

Survey Results Summary This survey revealed that the efforts of equipment manufacturers and engineering companies toward life extension still largely fail to break out of the framework of 'regular inspections'. While the introduction of remote monitoring and IoT is progressing, only a fraction of companies can utilize this data to make proposals to clients.

Furthermore, over 70% of companies are unable to present the 'future cost predictions and simulations' necessary for clients to decide between repairing or replacing. A structural issue has emerged across the industry where clients are not being provided with sufficient 'materials to make decisions'.

Additionally, regarding the Revised Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources coming into effect in April 2026, 32.9% 'did not know' and 21.9% 'knew but have not started', meaning over half of the companies have yet to take action, making the acceleration of initiatives across the industry an urgent necessity.

Survey Background The equipment machinery that supports Japan's industrial and social infrastructure faces 'two crises' simultaneously: aging infrastructure and a shortage of skilled technicians. As equipment massively installed from the high economic growth period through the 1990s reaches its renewal phase, the aging and decline of maintenance technicians who would handle this are accelerating.

Moreover, the Revised Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources, effective April 2026, demands a response to extend the lifespan of equipment products, requiring an urgent strengthening of measures across the entire supply chain.

Against this backdrop, this survey was conducted to clarify the actual state of life extension initiatives by equipment manufacturers and engineering companies, and to enable industry stakeholders to objectively understand their own positions.
