Competition Overview - Competition Name: 27th Tokyo Disabled Sports Competition - Date: Sunday, May 17, 2026 - Venue: Tokyo Aquatics Centre Main Pool
Comment from Kaito Murai I was able to win gold medals in both the 25m and 50m backstroke in the swimming open class at the 27th Tokyo Disabled Sports Competition. This competition holds special meaning for me, as it was the first swimming meet I ever entered and the first time I won a gold medal. From that moment on, I felt a desire to "become the best swimmer with Down syndrome in Japan" and "reach the world stage one day," which began my path from Tokyo to the world. Although this was my first race in about a year, I was able to swim the 25m backstroke in the 18-second range, which felt great. In the 50m backstroke, I was able to break the qualifying standard for the "12th World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships" to be held in Albufeira, Portugal. I will continue to work hard for the Portugal tournament. Thank you for your support.
