Buffalo Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroyuki Maki) has begun providing updates to its remote management service "KikiNavi," including support for the business router "VR-U Series" with "KikiNavi Cloud Zero-Touch."

Update Details

This update primarily introduces functional enhancements to reduce the setup and operational burden on network administrators.

1 Functional Enhancements for Business Routers "VR-U Series"

Automatic setup via "Cloud Zero-Touch" now possible *1

The business router "VR-U Series" now supports KikiNavi Cloud Zero-Touch. Routers can be registered to "KikiNavi" using their serial number and MAC address. *2

Registered routers can be assigned configuration information in bulk. The configuration information is automatically reflected simply by connecting the device to the internet at the installation site, allowing for smooth operation startup without prior kitting or setup work at the site. Connection from the router to KikiNavi supports IPv6 communication, and KikiNavi Cloud Zero-Touch can be used even in IPv4 over IPv6 communication service environments.

Configuration file readability and profile application function *3

In addition to the conventional configuration files (bin format), CLI format configuration files can now be downloaded from the KikiNavi screen. This allows for easy viewing and management of router configuration details on the screen. Furthermore, by rewriting the text of desired configuration items and creating them as new "profiles" for routers on KikiNavi, efficient operation is possible by assigning new configurations to target devices remotely.

Added continuous support function for router configuration restoration using USB memory *3

For automatic router configuration restoration using USB memory, it is now possible to perform configuration restoration (reuse) continuously on multiple routers.

2 Improvements to Overall Operational Management Functions of "KikiNavi"

Serial number information added to event notification emails

In addition to the conventional hostname and installation location, "device serial number information" has been added to the device information in event notification emails (notifications of errors, etc.) sent from KikiNavi. Administrators can now immediately identify and pinpoint the individual device where an error occurred simply by checking the email.

Improved user interface for device group/user group selection screen

The group selection method in the management screen will be changed from the conventional drop-down list format to a dialog format. Keyword search targeting "device group name" and "description" fields will be possible within the dialog. Paging display of 50 items per page is supported, allowing for quick selection of target groups, especially in large-scale environments managing a high number of devices.

Remote Management Service "KikiNavi"

A remote management service that connects remote NAS, business routers, access points, smart switches, and their administrators via the internet. It can be used without special network settings as long as there is an environment that supports HTTPS communication. It constantly monitors the status of supported devices and immediately notifies the administrator in case of a failure. In addition to remotely monitoring the status of supported devices, administrators can perform actions such as restarting supported devices, acquiring debug logs, and executing firmware updates. By performing simple maintenance operations remotely without needing to visit the site, the burden on management companies is significantly reduced.
