Bringing Noh closer: 'Shibuya Noh' returns for its 8th year with a new gourmet dining package!

Tokyu Bunkamura, Inc. (based in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will hold 'Shibuya Noh', a four-part performance series, at the Cerulean Tower Noh Theater from August 28, 2026, to March 26, 2027.

Launched in 2019, 'Shibuya Noh' serves as a platform for next-generation Noh performers to refine their craft and fosters a long-term connection between performers and audiences. Crossing the boundaries of traditional schools, the series aims to pass down the 650-year-old tradition of Noh to contemporary times.

To make Noh more accessible, each performance begins with an introduction by Noh critic Naoki Kaneko, who explains the highlights in an easy-to-understand manner. Audiences receive programs containing synopses and background information, along with librettos (chants/dialogue) as study aids. A signature highlight of 'Shibuya Noh' is the after-talk session, where performers appear without their masks to share their thoughts and enthusiasm about the performance.

For the repertoire, the first night features 'Kamo' by Masahiro Nakamura (Konparu school); the second night, 'Katsuragi' by Ryusei Udaka (Kongo school); the third night, 'Sumidagawa' by Hikaru Uzawa (Kanze school); and the finale night showcases 'Shimai' (dance excerpts) and 'Maibayashi' (dance with instruments) from the five Shite schools, along with a Kyogen performance by Yuki Nomura (Izumi school).

From the first to the third nights, performers themselves will host pre-performance lectures, offering a glimpse into the personal side of the artists. These lectures are free (reservation required) upon presentation of the performance ticket.

In addition, a 'Gourmet Plan Combined Ticket' series has been announced. This limited-quantity plan includes tickets for all four performances along with dining experiences at various restaurants within the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel. Tickets will be available through the online platform 'MY Bunkamura'. Customers who purchase this series will also be entered into a special raffle for prizes such as a hotel stay or a dinner voucher.
