BYD has been ranked first overall in the 'Automotive INNOVATIONS Report 2026' published by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM), a German automotive research institute. BYD scored 157 points, surpassing the previous leader Volkswagen Group (143 points) and Mercedes-Benz (134 points). This is the first time a Chinese automaker has taken the top spot since the annual survey began in 2005.\nCAM's evaluation highlighted BYD's continuous innovation in electrification, battery technologies, and smart systems, alongside its highly competitive, vertically integrated development structure. BYD self-develops and manufactures key new energy vehicle components, including batteries, motors, electronic control systems, and automotive semiconductors.\nNotable technologies introduced by BYD include the Blade Battery, DM-i/DM-p hybrid technology, e-Platform 3.0, Cell to Body (CTB) tech, iTAC, the DiSus intelligent body control system, and the XUANJI architecture. Founded in 1995, BYD terminated fossil-fuel car production in 2022. Its Asia-Pacific division, established in 2012, operates in over 20 countries with 13 local affiliates.
