Overview:

The World of Pediatric Leukemia, Now Nearly 90% Curable

Pediatric leukemia, for which cure was once difficult to hope for until the 1960s, has now achieved a cure rate of nearly 90%. This has been accomplished through the accumulation of clinical trials conducted by multi-institutional collaborative research groups worldwide. The current research goal has shifted towards reducing treatment side effects and late complications without lowering the cure rate. To achieve this, cooperation among various medical departments, collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, and joint efforts with patient groups are essential.
