Canon Marketing Japan Inc. (President and CEO: Masachika Adachi, hereinafter Canon MJ) has signed a basic agreement with IPconnect Inc. (Representative Director: Naoyuki Murai, hereinafter IPconnect) regarding collaboration on a content risk management service business utilizing AI. Moving forward, the two companies will consider the social implementation of a system to identify, appropriately evaluate, and manage the rights infringement risks associated with content such as text and images generated by AI, with the aim of realizing a society where generative AI can be used safely and proactively.

In recent years, the spread of generative AI has led to the increasing utilization of AI-generated content across various fields. However, there is also a growing possibility that generated images and videos may unintentionally resemble existing copyrighted works, characters, individuals, or brand expressions, leading to suspicions of rights infringement or reputational risks. While companies have a growing need to utilize generative AI in their operations, they face the challenge of difficulty in assessing the risks associated with the generated content. These challenges hinder the productivity improvements that can be achieved through the proactive use of generative AI.

IPconnect has been developing "AI rights HUB" (Note 1), a solution that visualizes unintended rights and reputational risks associated with the use of AI-generated content, supporting judgment for anyone to use content with peace of mind. This solution provides materials for individuals to judge the usability of AI-generated content through prompt analysis, similarity evaluation of generated images, and recording/auditing of judgment results (Note 2).

Canon MJ, triggered by the acceleration program "spark.me" conducted in 2025, has been jointly planning and promoting PoCs, conducting market research, and engaging in awareness expansion activities with IPconnect. Based on the basic agreement signed this time, Canon MJ will promote demonstrations for the social implementation of this business and explore the possibility of further collaboration with partners. Instead of excessively restricting the use of generative AI, the company aims to contribute to the construction of a new social infrastructure that supports both creative activities and content utilization by establishing a system that can appropriately visualize, judge, and record risks.

Canon MJ promotes open innovation with the aim of solving social issues and creating future value. Through this initiative, Canon MJ will support the sound utilization of generative AI and contribute to the creation of an environment where everyone, including creators, rights holders, content users, and consumers, can create, distribute, and use content with peace of mind.

Note 1: Received the Special Award "Mirai Vision Award" in the NEDO Prize-Winning Program "GENIAC-PRIZE" (Domain 3: "Exploration of Risks and Development of Risk Reduction Technologies for Ensuring Generative AI Safety"). Note 2: Refers to the saving of records (logs and history) of "when, who, and what was done" in a form that can be objectively verified and traced by a third party later.
