Ocean Expo Park's "Oki-chan Theater" (located in Motobu Town, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture) will host a special event on Saturday, April 25, to express gratitude for the half-century journey of Oki-chan, a Southern bottlenose dolphin who was active for a long time.
Oki-chan, the Southern bottlenose dolphin, symbolized Okinawa's tourism promotion and the aquarium's history for 50 years, welcoming over 50 million visitors. Although she sadly passed away on December 2, 2025, her achievements remain etched in the hearts of many. This event is held to look back on Oki-chan's journey and to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the years.
During the event, in addition to screening '50 Years of History, Archive Footage,' we will introduce 'The Future of Aquariums, Initiatives for the Future' on a large digital signage, conveying the role and challenges of aquariums.
Furthermore, the author of the picture book "Churaumi no Oki-chan," created to commemorate the 50th anniversary, will read the book and share episodes about its creation.
On the day of the event, the picture book will be sold at the venue, and an autograph session with the author is planned after the ceremony.
In addition, violinist Ryoma (RYOMA), who is also active as a "Churashima Okinawa Ambassador," will perform a commemorative song with thoughts of remembrance.
Through a special show featuring live violin performance and collaboration with dolphins, we will connect our thoughts for the future with music.
