Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, has completed the development of the "Ikoi to Manabi no Koryu Terrace" complex facility at the former site of Iwakuni Medical Center in the Kuroiso area. The facility officially opened for use on April 21, 2026 (Tuesday). An opening event took place on April 19, 2026 (Sunday) from 13:00, offering activities like facility exploration tours, workshops, and science shows. The facility, approximately 100,000㎡ in area, is located at 2-9-1 Kuroiso-cho, Iwakuni City. It is designed as a comprehensive exchange hub, integrating welfare and science learning facilities, interaction facilities, nature interaction facilities, and health promotion facilities. Key features include a Welfare Center (open 9:00-22:00, bathing facilities 11:00-20:00, closed Mondays and Thursdays for bathing facilities) and a Science Center (open 9:00-17:00, closed Mondays). Both centers are designed with universal access, featuring elevators and slopes. The facility also serves as a disaster shelter and a disaster volunteer center. It offers consultation services, multi-purpose rooms, experiential science exhibits, and a science library. Parking is available for approximately 200 general cars and 4 large buses.
