Kawasaki City has announced that its coastal area was selected as a 'promising region' for the national support system known as 'GX (Green Transformation) Strategy Region' by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on April 24, 2026. Following consultations with stakeholders, the city is now sharing an overview of the application that led to this selection.
Since the establishment of the system and the opening of applications in December 2025, the city has been working to promote large-scale land use conversion aligned with major national policies. This effort has been conducted in coordination with JFE Holdings Corporation and the Kawasaki Coastal Area GX Strategy Promotion Consortium. Currently, the six selected regions are refining their business plans ahead of the national final review.
Moving forward, the city will undergo a final review by the government based on its business plan. Regions recognized for having a sufficiently mature project will be certified as GX Strategy Regions around the summer of 2026. Kawasaki City will continue to work in partnership with JFE Holdings and other stakeholders to secure this certification.
