About Kitakyushu City...
Kitakyushu City is located in the northern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, at the northernmost tip of Kyushu, facing Honshu across the Kanmon Strait. It was established in 1963 (Showa 38) through a new merger of five cities: Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yahata, and Wakamatsu. It was the first government-designated city outside of the three major metropolitan areas and prefectural capitals, and the first in Kyushu. While being a major city, it also faces both the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea, boasts Hiraodai, one of Japan's three major karst plateaus, and has been selected as one of Japan's New Three Major Night View Cities, making it a city where "major city" and "nature" coexist.
Furthermore, while it has a strong image as an industrial city, it has also developed as a transportation hub with all Shinkansen Nozomi trains stopping at Kokura Station, Kitakyushu Airport allowing 24-hour takeoffs and landings, Kitakyushu Port as an international hub port, and a road network extending in all directions including the Kyushu Expressway, Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, and Chugoku Expressway.
Moreover, it has been selected as the No. 1 city in the government-designated city category of the "Next Generation Nurturing Environment Ranking" for 14 consecutive years, drawing attention as a livable and child-friendly city.
