The Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum will offer free admission on May 5, 2026 (a holiday), and host an experiential event where families can learn the history of repatriation and Siberian internment. A variety of programs touching upon the living conditions of that time are scheduled, including log cutting and tasting black bread.

This event is held in conjunction with 'Children's Day' on May 5th, under the theme 'Let's Learn the History of Repatriation on Children's Day.' Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for families to learn together across generations about the history of repatriation and Siberian internment.

On the day of the event, admission will be free.

The main programs are as follows:

Experiential Programs At the 'Siberian Internment Life Experience Corner,' there will be a log-cutting experience to learn about the labor conditions of that time, as well as an extreme cold experience. In the 'Food Experience Corner,' meals from that era will be recreated, providing black bread and steamed potatoes to the first 100 people starting at 10:00 AM.

Learning and Exhibition Programs A 'Repatriation Quiz Rally' will be held to learn history while touring the museum, with gifts prepared for those who answer all questions correctly (limited to the first 100 people). Additionally, there will be an 'Iroha Karuta Game' using picture cards drawn by a Siberian internment survivor, and a picture story show (Kamishibai) depicting the tale of a real dog named 'Kuro' who came to Japan from Siberia.

Commentary and Guided Tours A 30-minute 'In-Museum Storyteller Tour' by the NPO 'Maizuru Repatriation Storytellers Group' will be held twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Furthermore, student storytellers will provide guided tours of the museum at any time, conveying history from the perspective of the younger generation.

Through this event, the Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum aims to help pass on the preciousness of peace and the facts of history to the next generation.
