Maizuru Tea Producers' Cooperative carried out tea picking to aim for two consecutive years as Japan's best at the National Tea Fair for Maizuru Tea, a specialty of Maizuru City. The first picking took place on April 30, and on May 2, the Mayor of Maizuru also participated, harvesting carefully selected tea leaves.
Maizuru City is working to further improve the quality of "Maizuru Tea," a special product of the city, and to cultivate its national brand value. This time, for submission to the "National Tea Fair," the highest-level tea competition in Japan, tea picking was done by "hand-picking" to carefully pluck only the new shoots, instead of machine harvesting.
Maizuru City has received the National Grand Prize for production area, ranking first in the Kabusecha category of the National Tea Fair a total of eight times, including five consecutive years from the 66th to the 70th competition, as well as the 73rd, 77th, and 79th competitions.
Future Plans
The harvested tea leaves are scheduled to be exhibited at the "Ryotan Tea Fair" to be held on June 18, and the "80th National Tea Fair" to be held in Saga Prefecture from August 25 to 27, among others.
