Miyazaki City is a region with a thriving livestock industry, leveraging its rich nature and vast land, playing a key role in supporting Japan's food supply. However, managing odors from livestock barns and compost facilities has always been a significant administrative challenge for improving working environments, ensuring coexistence with local residents, and promoting the sustainable development of the industry. Furthermore, at the beloved Miyazaki City Phoenix Natural Zoo, there was a need for odor control to enhance visitor comfort, improve the working environment for zookeepers, and boost the well-being of the animals. To address these issues, Miyazaki City signed a partnership agreement with S.T. Corporation, a specialist in deodorization, on May 18, 2026, as part of a public-private partnership initiative. The core of this agreement is the mutual exchange of S.T. Corporation's advanced deodorization expertise and Miyazaki City's vast livestock fields and on-site knowledge. Specifically, starting in June 2026, a six-month demonstration experiment will begin at two main sites: poultry farms and the Miyazaki City Phoenix Natural Zoo. The experiment will test the effectiveness of unique deodorizing products and technologies, including spraying tree water extracted from Todomatsu thinned wood, powder-blended sheets, and activated carbon. At poultry farms, the focus will be on measuring odor reduction and verifying improvements in the working environment. At the zoo, the focus will be on implementing odor control in animal enclosures (such as the flamingo house), conducting interviews with visitors and staff, and verifying improvements in animal living conditions. Through these efforts, the city aims to collect effective data to enhance productivity in the livestock industry and increase the appeal of the zoo. S.T. Corporation's Executive Managing Director Yamamoto stated that the company has been promoting projects utilizing Hokkaido's forest resources since 2007 and hopes to contribute to the development of Miyazaki City by applying these resources to environmental improvements. The Mayor of Miyazaki expressed high expectations that this collaboration will lead to improved environments and increased productivity in the livestock sector and the zoo.
