[Nara City Hall] Zero Dog and Cat Culling Achieved for 7 Consecutive Years [Mayor's Press Conference]

Nara City has been promoting various initiatives to reduce the intake of shelter dogs and cats and expand opportunities for adoption to new owners, aiming for 'zero culling of dogs and cats'. In FY2025, excluding natural death and euthanasia, 'zero culling' was achieved, marking the 7th consecutive year since FY2019. This is the result of continuous cooperation from citizens, private businesses, and animal welfare organizations. The city will continue its efforts, including expanding subsidies for spaying/neutering stray cats, volunteering programs, and promoting adoption support in FY2026, supported by record high donations from the Hometown Tax program.
