Mr. Keisuke Ota, a native of Nogata City, has safely completed his mission of over one year as a wintering member of the 66th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition and returned to Japan in March 2026. We are pleased to announce that he will pay a courtesy visit to the mayor to report on the completion of his mission. The Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition is responsible for observation activities in Antarctica, conducting surveys and research on the global environment, weather, ice sheets, etc. The wintering team plays a crucial role in continuous observation under harsh conditions, including polar nights.

Profile of Mr. Keisuke Ota Spent his time in Nogata City until graduating from high school. After graduating from university, he started mountaineering while working for an apparel company. From his twenties, he gained extensive mountaineering experience throughout the four seasons, focusing on alpine climbing, but also including river climbing, ice climbing, long-distance trekking, and overseas expeditions. He then engaged in product planning and development for outdoor brands, utilizing his knowledge and experience gained from mountaineering. He acquired advanced skills and knowledge through serious mountaineering activities and became an independent mountain guide. His achievements and advanced safety management skills were recognized, leading to his selection as a field support member for the 66th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, where he was involved in local support for observation activities in Antarctica.
