・What is the 'Sagamihara Digital Archive'?
Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, known as a commuter town for the Tokyo metropolitan area, is a government-designated city with a vast area of 321.89 square kilometers—more than half the total area of Tokyo's 23 wards—and a population of 720,000, comparable to the population of Tokushima Prefecture.
Following municipal mergers between 2006 and 2007, the city's area expanded 3.6 times. It has become a city with diverse expressions, where highly convenient urban areas coexist with nature-rich mountainous regions, each harboring its own unique history and culture.
Furthermore, the city possesses a unique narrative unlike any other municipality, shaped by its history starting with pre-war military city planning, the presence of extensive U.S. military facilities requisitioned after the war, and the development of unique industries supported by excellent accessibility.
