At the 40th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting on July 17, 2016 (Heisei 28), 'The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier – An Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Movement,' comprising 17 sites in 7 countries, including the National Museum of Western Art in Taito City, Tokyo, was inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage List.
This year, on July 17, 2026 (Reiwa 8), marks the 10th anniversary of its World Cultural Heritage registration.
To commemorate this milestone, a 10th-anniversary commemorative project will be implemented throughout Reiwa 8. The aim is to widely communicate the architectural and cultural value of the National Museum of Western Art, the architect Le Corbusier who designed it, the 'Matsukata Collection' which led to the museum's establishment, and the achievements of Kojiro Matsukata. This initiative seeks to promote the appeal of 'Taito City, a town with World Heritage' both domestically and internationally.
