The 'Paella Summit 2026' will take place over two days on Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday, May 31st, 2026, at Ama Archaeological Park in Takatsuki City. This event features the Japanese qualifier for the 65th Sueca International Paella Valenciana Competition, where chefs compete in paella-making skills. This marks the third time the event is being held in the city. In addition to the selection competition, the event will feature the sale of paella cooked in a massive 1.5-meter pot, food stalls from 16 shops including Spanish restaurants, and flamenco shows.
The international competition in Spain is the oldest and most historic paella-making contest. Celebrating its 65th year, 50 teams that have passed global qualifiers will compete. The Japanese qualifier for this competition will again be held at Ama Archaeological Park in Takatsuki City. Eighteen teams from across Japan will compete. All teams will be provided with the same ingredients, such as chicken and Valencia rice, and must complete 15 servings of paella within a two-and-a-half-hour time limit. The key evaluation points are extracting flavor from the same ingredients to create a high-quality soup and locking that flavor into each individual grain of rice. The qualifier will be open to the public for free, allowing spectators to watch the intense battle between professional chefs up close.
Furthermore, the event venue will increase the volume of paella sold from the popular 1.5-meter pot to 1,500 servings this year. The event also features food stalls from approximately 16 shops, including famous Kansai Spanish restaurants and local eateries, as well as flamenco shows by professional guitarists. We invite you to join this popular food and culture event, which saw over 10,000 visitors last year.
