Takatsuki City to Host Back-to-Back Performances by Local Senior Theater Troupe and Kanto-Based Group

Takatsuki City is known for its vibrant cultural arts scene, regularly hosting workshops that allow people of all ages to learn theatrical expression techniques. From Saturday, July 4, to Sunday, July 12, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the Takatsuki Castle Park Art and Culture Theater will host a theater project featuring performances by a local citizens' theater group formed from workshop participants and a theater troupe from the Kanto region.

"Takatsuki de Engeki" (Theater in Takatsuki), a collaborative initiative between the Takatsuki Castle Park Art and Culture Theater and the NPO Corporation Gekiken, supports citizen-led creative activities. The program centers on performances by citizen theater groups formed from workshops attended by university students, housewives, and senior citizens. It also includes exchanges with theater troupes from other regions, symposiums with professional directors, and stage art exhibitions.

This year, two groups will participate: a senior theater troupe active within the city and a Kanto-based troupe selected through public recruitment. "Takatsuki Senior Theater Sen-nen-dan" will present an original dialogue-based play themed around shogi, reflecting Takatsuki's identity as a "shogi town." The Kanto-based "Ku-yoshi-gumi," led by Sakiki Kuniyoshi—a screenwriter active in drama and film—creates works under the concept of "abnormal, everyday, and surreal." Their performance humorously portrays the story of an unidentified resident living in a tall tower and the townspeople bewildered by their existence.
